Nestled into a hillside overlooking San Francisco Bay, Casa Madrona Hotel & Spa combines vintage architecture with modern hospitality and Golden Gate charm. Now offering a total of 63 rooms, including seven suites, Casa Madrona Hotel features 32 Victorian-styled accommodations and 31 contemporary rooms with warm, residential furnishings—19 of which enjoy private balconies overlooking the Sausalito waterfront.

From Mansion to Luxury Resort
The Casa Madrona Mansion was originally built in Sausalito in 1885 as the home of William Barrett. In 1910, however, John Gallagher purchased the property, converting it into the Casa Madrona Hotel. After a long and colorful history, the property was severely damaged and scheduled for demolition. In light of this, John Mays took charge of the mansion and grounds in 1976, vowing to restore them to their former splendor. During the successful restoration process that followed, 16 hillside cottages were added to this historic property. The hotel was completed in November, 2003 with the adddition of Poggio Restaurant, serving Northern Italian cuisine.

Casa Madrona Hotel & Spa is currently managed by RockResorts International, LLC. Under this management, the property has undergone major renovations and additions to increase the number of guest rooms from 34 to 63, while also introducing a spectacular new spa to the property. In December of 2003, Casa Madrona also unveiled a boardroom, private dining room, and three new meeting rooms that, combined, can accommodate groups of up to 150 guests.

Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, Casa Madrona now maintains the record for the oldest mansion in all of Sausalito.

Room Descriptions
Casa Madrona Hotel & Spa guest rooms are located in three distinct areas on our hillside property overlooking Sausalito and Richard's Bay. Each is located either in the Victorian Mansion, among the Historic Individual Mini-Casitas, or within the Hotel Style Contemporary Room structures.

Victorian Room
These charming, individually-decorated rooms are all located in the original Casa Madrona Victorian Mansion. With queen-size beds, the rooms vary in size from 200 to 350 square feet.

Garden Court Room
Nestled throughout the property, these tranquil rooms are ideal for a quiet, relaxing escape. Room styles range from the unique look and feel of the original Casa Madrona Hotel to the Contemporary California style of our most recently added guest rooms. With king and queen beds, these rooms vary in size from 250 to 350 square feet.

Historic Bayview Room
Located on the hillside above Sausalito, are our charming historic rooms provide spectacular views of the local marina and Richardson's Bay. Individually furnished in the style of the classic Casa Madrona room, these unique quarters exude an aura of travel and adventure. From Katmandu to the Rose Chalet, wood burning stoves and fireplaces are found in the majority of these rooms, and many have large, private balconies. Perfect for a cozy romantic hideaway or a get together with friends, Historic Bayview rooms are also wonderful accommodations for an unequaled corporate meeting experience. Every one of these rooms is furnished with a queen-size bed, many have antique claw foot bathtubs, and they vary in size from 350 to 500 square feet.

Contemporary Harborview Rooms
From the balconies of these contemporary-styled rooms enjoy panoramic views of the charming seaside communities of Sausalito, San Francisco Bay, and Angel Island. All rooms boast high ceilings, four-poster king-sized beds, French doors that open onto private balconies, and large, luxurious bathrooms with oversized soaking tubs. Sizes vary from 350 to 500 square feet.

Suites
These peerless suites are each decorated with the distinctive character and charm of the original Casa Madrona Hotel. Every one offers spacious accommodations complete with stunning views, multiple rooms, and either a fireplace or a wood burning stove. Other amenities to inquire about include a kitchen, a balcony or deck, and a second bedroom. Rooms vary in size from 430 to 800 square feet.
