Avanyu Spa
Avanyu, the Tewa Native American name for a mythical water serpent,
represents the restorative and life-giving power of water to native
Southwestern peoples. At Avanyu Spa, we integrate water therapies
with the use of nourishing products from the sea and our surrounding
region to restore balance to both body and mind.
Notice: We are pleased to announce the renovation of the Avanyu
Spa at La Posada. This project will be taking place during the months
of April and May. During this time accommodations have been made
for you to enjoy the Avanyu experience complete with fitness facilities,
relaxation lounge, pool, jetted hot tub and a variety of massages,
facials and nail services. Unfortunately our locker facilities are
unavailable including steam, lockers and showers.
The 4,500-square-foot
Avanyu Spa at La Posada de Santa Fe includes a treatment area featuring
five massage rooms, two facial rooms, and one spa wet room. The
spa offers a comprehensive selection of treatments, day packages,
and salon work (including complete hair and nail treatments).
The Fitness
Center features Cybex workout equipment, free weights, and cardiovascular
equipment. To get your heart pumping, there are three state-of-the-art
Cybex treadmills, two Elliptical machines, a recumbent bike, and
Stairmaster. The men's and women's locker rooms have day lockers
and choice amenities such as plush robes and slippers.
A heated outdoor
pool and Jacuzzi, open year-round, are adjacent to the spa, while
a roof-top spa terrace provides stunning views of La Posada's gardens
and surrounding mountains. Enjoy one of our outdoor cabana treatments
here, as New Mexico's natural and cultivated splendor encompasses
you.

Tissue Massage
This more therapeutic technique of bodywork helps to release
tension and discomfort of knotted muscles. Incorporating slow
strokes that run across the muscles with a very firm pressure, this
massage works best on targeted areas and not the full body.

After a brief consultation, your therapist will use a variety
of techniques with desired pressures to address your needs. Your
customized massage will improve circulation, help relieve tight

Massage
This is a massage focusing on the neck, shoulders, and back. The 25-minute
Anti-Stress treatment is customized to help relieve sore, tight
muscles. Such a massage serves as a great introduction
to the spa environment.
Prenatal
Massage
A gentle massage providing relaxation for the mother-to-be
and baby. This massage will aid in relieving stress on weight-bearing
joints, reducing neck and lower-back discomfort, and countering
the effects of edema. This is a side-lying service, ideal
for anyone (man or woman) who is unable to like supine.
High
Desert Stone Therapy
With roots extending from Native America, this regional
healing process uses the elements of mother nature—fire, water,
and earth—to bring relief to tense muscles, sore joints, and stressed
emotional states. Our specially trained therapist will massage your
body with the penetrating heat of smooth basalt stones, deeply affecting
muscles, and leaving your spirit renewed.
La Stone
Therapy
Based on a traditional Native American-inspired healing technique
that uses warm and chilled stones, this full-body massage has
an energetic property that leaves the body and mind feeling both
relieved and balanced. This 80- minute, trademarked treatment
brings refreshment to tense muscles, sore joints, stressed emotions,

Craniosacral
Energy Work
In Craniosacral practice, rhythm and energy indicate harmony
or imbalance. Bones of the cranium, spine, and sacrum serve
as positioning sites for the therapist’s hands. This light-touch
therapy releases the soft, connective tissue of the spinal cord
to improve the body’s internal environment, dissipating pain and
enhancing range of motion in joints that have been impaired by injury
or disease.
Polarity
Energy Work
This unique style of bodywork is similar to craniosacral
work, Shiatsu, and Reiki. Your therapist will address currents
in which energy flows through your body using a pressure that ranges from
a light touch to a firm one. This treatment will aim at reducing
the blockage within these currents, allowing a feeling of balanced
flow within the body.
Reiki
Reiki is an ancient process of channeling energy. A
non-invasive, hands–on energy/touch technique helps to reduce stress,

Shiatsu

In Shiatsu treatment, based on a 5,000-year-old Japanese

the body and mind feels a sense of restored energy and balance.
(This service is accommodated on a low table rather than on the

This treatment is done on the floor, using a mat, and involves
assisted stretching and yoga-like moves to lengthen and energize

Mud Wrap
This treatment is designed to exfoliate and re-mineralize
dull, tired-looking skin. Your Native American healing treatment
begins with a gentle epidermal exfoliation. Mineral-rich adobe
mud is then applied and the entire body is lightly wrapped
to retain natural body heat while encouraging muscles to relax. As
the mud soothes muscles and the skin is re-mineralized, impurities
are drawn from the system. Your treatment ends with the application
of a warmed moisturizer blended with desert sage and juniper essential
oils, leaving your skin nourished and revitalized.
Corn
Dance Purification
A blend of cornmeal, oatmeal, and white clay has the
unique property of absorbing both oil and water-soluble toxins from
pores while nourishing the skin. Your purification treatment
begins with a gentle, dry brushing of the skin with a natural bristle
body brush to stimulate circulation and remove dead skin cells.
Our warmed Corn Dance mixture is then applied and the body
is wrapped for relaxation, which is followed by a gentle “gomage”
(exfoliation) of the skin. After showering, a moisture-rich
lotion application, containing regional lavender essential oil,
leaves your skin feeling like silk.
Desert
Body Polish
Micronized bamboo infused with aromatic Lemongrass extract
will cleanse and exfoliate the outer layer of the skin like no other
scrub. Extracts of sugar cane, citrus, and apple penetrate
the skin for an even deeper exfoliation. Your session will
finish with a rich moisturizing herbal body lotion. This
50-minute treatment leaves your skin glowing and silky smooth.

Treat yourself to a cool and hydrating experience designed
for dry, sunburned, or sun-damaged skin. After using a soft
mist spray of lavender to promote the skin's healing, an application
of soothing aloe gel is applied. Next, the body is lightly wrapped

while your skin savors the moisture. An application
of lotion with pure aloe and nourishing rosehips leaves the skin
refreshed and renewed.
The
Pueblo Salt Glow
This popular body treatment, using precious
earth salts combined with essential oils, will gently exfoliate
the entire body. You can feel the noticeable difference in
the quality of our salt—very fine in texture and especially rich
in minerals to help improve cell vitality, detoxify, and re-mineralize
while guaranteeing to satisfy the driest skin. Many find this
treatment especially helpful in combating the effects
of the high desert. We recommend this treatment after a massage
to revitalize your energy. (Ladies, for your comfort, we advise
that you refrain from shaving before this treatment.)

Flores Herbal Wrap
Resting in a warm cocoon of muslin sheets that have
been steeped in high-desert wildflowers and herbs, the core
body temperature is raised gently to aid in the release of impurities
from your system. This herbal wrap can help sore, aching muscles,
and relaxes muscular tension while encouraging lymphatic drainage.
(We do not recommend this treatment for the heat sensitive or hypertensive
individual.)
